COLORS-FOR-BEDROOM-IDEAS
We all want to inject a little color into our bedroom but it's one of
the hardest rooms in which to get the balance right. Here's some
gorgeous inspiration to show how it's done.
The confidence to add color to your bedroom comes with building
from a safe base of neutrals and textured finishes in your walls,
flooring and architectural features. Layer soft folds with bed linens
and throws, and then punctuate with cushions and the odd
statement accessory.
Subtle touches of purple mixed with dark moody charcoals
introduce a refined, subdued palette. Pattern does the heavy lifting
here, with larger expanses such as wallpaper and curtains turning
down the color dial, counterbalanced by soft furnishings and
cushions.
Pops of color in this master bedroom seem brave but closer
inspection yields the ability to change it up at will and with trends
and seasons - artworks and cushions carry the brightest hues, with
natural timbers on walls and floor breaking up an otherwise all-
white base. Textured throws and a hide rug up the ante.
Again a base of all white in this loft bedroom allows the
architecture to shine, with accessories and soft furnishings
bringing in the luxe look with texture and color. Lush velvet throws
are juxtaposed against weathered concrete flooring and
monochrome and metal sit side-by-side. The bedspread makes a
statement in an opulent jeweled, deep peony pink, offset by its
pale pink counterpart layered above.
This bedroom sees a bigger investment in color for the longer
term, with designer rugs and an upholstered bedhead anchoring
the color scheme. Strong complimentary colors feature in
cushions, which can be changed out down the track.
Effortless on the surface, this bedroom is a study in considered
style, with monochrome everything, save for the chunky throw and
feature cushion reflecting the warm, dusty apricot tones.
This bed, upholstered in natural linen at its head enjoys a beautiful
color scheme of blue and mustard, anchored with bed linens and
an antique chest at its foot. With its soaring, timber-lined ceiling,
the room remains peaceful in all white.
This bed, bedecked with a patterned upholstered bedhead against
unadorned walls, achieves maximum impact. This slate grey might
otherwise have overwhelmed the space but the shocking pink
dyed rug balances the effect.
Of all the rooms in your home, the one that often gets overlooked
is the bedroom – and yet it's where you spend around a third of
your time. We're sharing some inspirational ideas and some very
different looks – but often you can work with what you have, with
maybe just a few additions, to really create the bedroom of your
dreams.
Even a basic divan can be given a lift with a faux headboard to
give it drama. This room is riad grande thanks to an exotic screen
used as a wall hanging, although a length of rich fabric would have
a similar effect. A scattering of rugs in jewel tones and a mix of
richly patterned bedding and cushions deliver both style and color;
the secret to successful pattern mixing is to keep to similar tones,
and unite with a base note - here, white provides the link. Vintage
suitcases add character, and practical storage for items such as
blankets.
So French, so fab! It's all about the bed, after all, and for sheer
glamour it's hard to beat a French provincial-style frame. These
are often available at surprisingly affordable prices, and if you're
handy with the staple gun, upholstered versions can be updated
with new fabric and trim to suit your scheme. Pair with the best
quality mattress you can afford, and dress with a traditional quilt for
the whole ooh-la-la experience. Pink and gold is the color way to
aim for.
For an inviting beachside boudoir, look to put natural textures and
sea-foam blues at the heart of the look. This scheme uses the
impactful presence of a distressed timber screen to center the bed.
Watery blues are calming and restful, the perfect color way for a
bedroom, with wicker and jute combining with an interesting trunk-
style bedside table adding character and contributing to the ocean-
going feel.
Moroccan magnificence is at the heart of this bold boudoir, with
gleaming metallic, rich patterns and bold colors blending
beautifully for a cozy, cocooning feel. Lavish finishes, such as the
inlaid bedside table; silver pendant lamp and patterned rug add
interest, with the orange pouffe delivering a wake-me-up shot of
color.
An afternoon with the paint pot can deliver a moody and magical
feature wall to pull the focus onto the bed; go for a matt finish to
disguise imperfections in the wall surface. Complement the dark
backdrop with crisp whites and natural hues to warm the scheme,
and let the bed linen do the color talking.
